Laying the Binder Course in Preparation for Rolling
The first of two layers used in typical surfaces such as tarmac driveways Coventry or footpaths is known as the binder course. This layer of tarmac contains a chunkier sort of aggregate than the final surface layer. Special insulated wagons are used to deliver the hot material to the site and keep it hot for as long as possible while it is being laid. Workers must move quickly to put the binder course in place while the material is still hot enough to work with. The type of project that is being done will usually dictate the way that the tarmac will need to be laid. When tarmac surfacing is being laid by a paver machine, then the delivery wagon will empty the tarmac into the machine as it moves along its path. The machine will re-heat the tarmac before spreading it and levelling it in a single uninterrupted process.
In hand-laid projects, the tarmac is commonly treated with a special oil-based substance referred to as ‘cut back’, which enables the tarmac to stay workable for a longer period of time at cooler temperatures. In this type of job, the tarmac is tipped off of the delivery wagon on top of a clean surface area such as the road, where it will be covered up with good-sized tarpaulins to help preserve the heat of the material. A Loading Shovel will subsequently supply the tarmac to the tarmac contractors, simply tipping it out whenever required for every portion of the path. There, skilled rake-hands will rake it until it is satisfactorily level. On lesser projects, it might not always be possible to utilise a Loading Shovel and consequently the tarmac might be personally shovelled from the sheeted pile straight into wheelbarrows and wheeled by Tarmac Contractors over to the laying edge, where they tip it out for the rake-hands to spread.
